Breast Cancer and IVF

Breast cancer is one of the leading forms of cancer that afflicts women in childbearing years. Fertility Preservation strategies for breast cancer patients include freezing eggs and/or ovarian tissue to preserve a portion of the patient's reproductive resources before cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy, as these treatments have the potential to damage fragile reproductive organs.

When the patient is in recovery from the breast cancer, she has the option to use her own frozen eggs or tissue in a variety of procedures, either to become pregnant herself, or, if the collateral damage from the treatment prevents that, to consider other options like using a surrogate.
